Students run riot after rejection of candidature

Bhubaneswar: Situation at the Maharishi College turned out of control as a group of students resorted to violence after the candidature some students contesting the Students Union polls was rejected by the college authorities on Saturday.
As per earlier schedule the list of the candidates, whose nomination papers were rejected, was displayed on notice board in the college. Knowing about the rejection the students at the institute turned berserk and started pelting stones on college staff. An employee of the college was injured in the process.
The students locked the gates of the college and staged a road blockade in front of the college. They demanded that the Principal should be removed from his post immediately.
In a similar situation, the students of MPC Autonomous College in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district ransacked the Computer Lab and the Principal office of the college after candidature of some students was rejected.
Three students of the college were arrested in this connection. Later the election was cancelled and sine die was declared in the college.
