Students and non-students clash in Vani Vihar: NH-16 road blocked
Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in Vani Vihar when students of Utkal University clashed with the non-students in late evening here on Monday in which two students were injured. Following the incident, students of the varsity protested and blocked the NH-16 road demanding for the arrest of the non-students.
At around 9:30 pm on Monday, some unidentified non-students attacked two hostel inmates named Santosh Das and Mukesh Sahoo who were driving from the main gate of the university towards Regional Research Laboratory(RRL) . Meanwhile, the non-students stopped them and after an argument they started abusing the hostel students and even beat them violently.
The students however managed to escape from the site and reached the hostel to inform the other hostel inmates. Following the incident, about 30 students along with the Students Union leader rushed to the spot and there was a huge clash between the two groups. At least two students were injured during the group clash.
The students staged protest in front of the University main gate and blocked the NH-16 road demanding for the arrest of the non-students. Later, the situation was brought under control when the police reached the spot after being informed. Police said that they have started the investigation to nab the accused at the earliest.
As per sources, since last few days, some non-students were seen sitting in the by lanes of RRL gate and the water tank area of the varsity passing lewd remarks to the girl students. Earlier, the police had also arrested one non-student on the basis of a complaint lodged by a female University student.
