Students’ Council poll of Ravenshaw University put on hold
Cuttack: Following strong opposition from various student organization and unrest in the campus, Ravenshaw University authority today put the Students’ Council poll on hold.
In view of protest and oppose by different disruptive forces, it has not been possible to conduct elections to Students’ Council for the session 2017-18. Therefore, the election scheduled to be held on 22-23 August, 2017 is hereby kept in abeyance until further orders and a notice in this regard has been issued, informed an official.
Fresh date for the election will be declared later by the varsity authorities, reports said.
However, several student organization affiliated to various political parties had today staged protest in front of the university main gate demanding to hold Students’ Union poll instead of Students’ Council election.
The VC has made it clear that the election needs to be held in peaceful atmosphere and it would be cancelled if violence is witnessed in the campus.
“The aim of students’ council election is not to allow politically affiliated students to represent in the poll. Those having affiliations with various political parties are opposing it,” Vice Chancellor Prakash Chandra Sarangi said.
