Student Congress activists clash with police in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here after hundreds of activists of the students’ wing of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee had a clash with police during a protest against increasing unemployment in the state.

The busy road turned into a virtual battle field when the activists took out a rally from Congress Bhawan and marched towards the State Assembly, after crossing the first barricade put up by the police.

Police has detained over 50 activists, including student Congress president Itish Pradhan from the spot.

Sources said the activists were agitating against the Centre for remaining indifferent to the increasing rate of unemployment in the state.

Earlier in the day, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik attended the protest rally.
