Student arrested for depositing fake notes


Bhubaneswar: The Khurda town police have arrested a student, named Sumit Kumar Tudu, who was allegedly depositing fake notes at a local branch of the State Bank of India on Friday. Police said he had brought cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh for depositing of which Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes worth Rs 47,000 were fake currency.

As per sources, taking advantage of the huge rush in the banks today, following the demonetization move of the Modi government, Tudu was aiming to deposit a total of Rs 2.5 lakh, out of which Rs 42000 in the denominations of Rs 1000 and Rs 5000 in the denominations of Rs 500 turned to be fake notes.

“We have arrested the youth and will interrogate regarding the source of the fake notes,” informed a police officer.
