Smuggled gold strips worth Rs 30L seized at BPIA
Bhubaneswar: Air Intelligence Unit of Customs department on Thursday seized 690.55 grams of gold strips from a passenger at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, a passenger, whose identity is not yet disclosed arrived at the airport by an Air Asia flight AK-31 from Kuala Lumpur. However, the passenger was detained following suspicious activities.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the passenger of Indian origin, hailing from Chennai was hiding the gold strips in the aluminium linings of her trolley bags.
The value of the seized gold strips has been estimated about Rs 30 lakhs, a Customs official said.
The passenger has been taken into police custody while further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
