Six student Congress activists arrested for scuffle with police in city


Bhubaneswar: Six student Congress activists including NSUI convener Itish Kumar Pradhan were arrested by the Commissionerate Police in connection with hurling eggs and tomatoes on police, during a protest rally.

According to reports, the Congress students’ wing activists today took out a rally from Congress Bhawan and marched towards Naveen Niwas demanding the arrest of Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena for his alleged nexus with the self-styled ‘Golden Baba’ alias Jyotiranjan Beura.

However, they were stopped by the police personnel near Sishu Bhawan Square. Soon a scuffle broke out after the student activists tried to break the police barricades and hurled eggs & tomatoes.

It may be mentioned here that ‘Golden Baba’ was arrested by Chandraskeharpur Police on December 31 last year on charges of defrauding a resident of Barbil area in Keonjhar district.

A total of 19 cases are pending against ‘Golden Baba’ in various police stations in the State.
