Cuttack: A case has been registered against BJD MLA Debasish Samantaray at Badambadi police station regarding his alleged misbehaviour with the kin of martyred CRPF Jawan Manoj Behera.
However, the case registered against Samantaray at Badambadi police station based on Congress’ allegation will be transferred to Niali police station, informed Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh today.
The women’s wing of Congress had lodged a complaint against Samantaray at Badambadi police station yesterday.
Protesting the misbehaviour shown towards the Pulwama attack martyr’s kin, the Congress activists today staged a demonstration at Badambadi chhak. The Mahila Congress member alleged that if Abhijit Iyer Mitra was arrested even after apologising for his derogatory remarks against Odisha and its lawmakers, then why not a ruling party MLA be arrested.
Moreover, Barabati-Cuttack BJP workers also met Rural SP Radha Binod Panigrahi and lodged a complaint against the legislator. Condemning such misbehaviour of Samantaray, the saffron party workers demanded his resignation and expulsion from the Biju Janata Dal.
BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said Debasish has already apologised and the party will take a call on action to be taken against him.
The BJD MLA has been in the eye of a storm after he allegedly misbehaved and manhandled martyred CRPF Jawan Manoj Behera’s kin during the conduct of last rites in Ratanpur of Cuttack district on February 16.
The entire incident was captured on camera and later went viral on social media.
