Shelter Home Sexual Abuse: Chargesheet Filed Against Accused Fayaz Rahman
Bhubaneswar: Dhenkanal Police on Thursday filed a chargesheet in the Orissa High Court against Fayaz Rahman, prime accused in the Dhenkanal shelter home sexual abuse case.
On the other hand, Fayaz Rahman’s bail plea will be up for hearing at the High Court tomorrow. Earlier, the HC had rejected his bail petition two times.
Rahman, head of NGO ‘Good News India’, was arrested on December 2 on charges of sexually harassing minor girls of the illegal shelter home at Dhenkanal’s Beltikri. The district administration has also sealed the shelter home following the issue.
After the news spread like wildfire across the state and also made it to other parts of the country, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi direct the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to conduct a probe and submit the report at the earliest.
In compliance with the directives from the WCD ministry, a nine-member team of the Commission had visited Odisha on December 12 last year and randomly inspected 50 shelter homes in 19 districts of the state.
The NCPCR recently submitted a report to the WCD ministry stating that out of 50 shelter homes, 28 lacks the minimum infrastructure, 21 shelter homes sans CCTV and 14 were found to be running illegally.
The Commission, in the report, has also stated that during inspection some religious books were also found at some shelter homes which points hints towards the alleged religious conversion of children in these institutions.
The NCPCR has also stated that the monitoring system of the state government was not working properly.
