Sexual assault slur: Self-styled godman Sura Baba’s ashram raided
Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday raided Trahi Achyuta ashram at Jhintidsasan on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar to interrogate self-proclaimed godman Sura Baba alias Surendranath Mishra.
The police move came after a woman from Belaguntha area in Ganjam district brought sexual assault charges against the controversial godman.
The police could not interrogate Sura Baba as he was on Mauna Vrata (silence religious meditation). However, the police team questioned other saints of the ashram.
According to sources, the young woman lodged a complaint with the Balipatna police in this regard. In her complaint, she stated that Sura Baba sexually assaulted her at his ashram on January 24.
According to her complaint, her fiancé and would-be mother-in-law took her to the ashram on January 24 on the pretext of performing puja when she was sexually harassed by Sura Baba.
The victim also named the mother-son duo as accused in her FIR. On the basis of the complaint, the police earlier registered a case under Sections 341, 323, 354, 506 and 34 of the IPC.
Notably, Sura Baba was released from Jharpada Jail in December 2017, two years after being arrested.
