Seven people die of two road mishaps in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: As many as seven people lost their lives in two road mishaps in Sambalpur and Khurda districts on Thursday.
A car dashed against a roadside tree near Khunti village under the Dhama police limits in Sambalpur district, killing four persons on the spot and critically hurting two others.
According to police sources, the tragedy took place when Works Department Junior Engineer of Kashipur in Rayagada, Gopinath Kishan, was travelling by the car along with his family members to his native Ghansara village under the Gadaposh police limits for the Nuankhai festival.
The driver of the vehicle lost control over wheels on Sonepur-Sambalpur NH near Khunti, following which it collided against the tree.
While driver Sanjay Matangi, Gopinath’s wife Tapaswini, his aunt Binapani and his 1.5-year-old daughter Gyanada died on the spot, Gopinath and one Madan Nayak were rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital.
In the other incident, three persons died and two others were grievously injured after a dumper ran over a tractor near Gada Khordha under the Khordha police station.
On being informed, police and fire service personnel reached the spot, recovered the bodies and rescued the injured victims.
