Second Brahmani bridge in Rourkela: Admin begins eviction drive

Sundargarh: The district administration on Thursday launched an eviction drive to pull down illegal encroachments and houses in Rupatola slum area near Panposh for construction of second Brahmani bridge in Rourkela.

The eviction drive was carried in presence of Panposh sub-collector, two magistrates, and five platoons of police personnel.

The proposal of construction of the second bridge came after the bridge connecting  Rourkela-Vedavyas is in danger following an increase in vehicular movement.

The civic authorities had earlier issued a notice to the slum dwellers to vacate the place as it was posing a  major hurdle for the construction of the bridge. Officials said financial support was also provided to nearly 54 families of the slums for their resettlement.

In July 2017, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone for the proposed second bridge over Brahmani river.
