Nabarangpur: A group of school children and some local youths were seen repairing a road in Pujariguda Panchayat under Tentulikhunti block of Nabarangpur district on Thursday morning.
When asked, they alleged that the contractor dumped metals on the roadside and is yet to begin the construction following which the stretch between Nuaguda and Khuntipadar has become non-motorable.
Locals claimed that even though the work order has been given, the contractor is yet to start the road work. Besides, the condition of the road has deteriorated due to heavy rains since the last couple of days. Scores of people including school children who commute on the 8 km long stretch are the most sufferers as they have to brave the ankle-deep mud on the road.
Incessant rain has washed away the road making it difficult for scores of school children to reach Tentulikhunti school from Nuaguda village. With no options left, the school children assisted by some local youth took up the task to repair the road a little bit, to make it commutable.
On being asked, Tentulikhunti block development officer Akhyamita Kartik informed that the road construction work has been taken up by the Rural Development department, while the SDO of the mentioned division said that the matter will be probed. However, the Junior Engineer concerned is yet to show up, locals further claimed.
Expressing dismay over the lackadaisical attitude of the local authorities, some local youths and even the school children repaired the muddy road on their own.
