School bus hits children playing on road, one killed


New Delhi: A 12-year-old boy was killed and a 10-year-old was injured when The British School’s bus ran over them in Chanakyapuri on Friday morning.

The police said that the deceased was identified as Rahul and his friend Jaideep has been identified as the injured, both residents of Vivekanand jhuggi cluster in Chanakyapuri. The accused driver identified as Reshampal has been arrested.

Police said, “Both the children and a few other friends were playing when the driver was trying to park the bus. He reversed the vehicle and was then moving forward when the two were hit”. The two were immediately rushed to a hospital where Rahul was declared brought dead on arrival as he suffered head injuries; Jaideep is said to be critical.

The police have registered a case under Section 279 (Rash driving) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. “The arrested driver was on a contract basis with the school,” the officer said.
