SC dismisses plea banning road shows, rallies in poll campaign

New Delhi: The apex court on Monday refused to entertain the plea seeking a direction to the Election Commission to ban road shows and bike rallies during polls.

The plea was filed by a former DGP of Uttar Pradesh.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepka Gupta said they are not inclined to entertain the plea.

The bench reportedly told the advocate Virag Gupta who was appearing for petitioners Vikram Singh and Shaivika Agrawal.

Singh is  a former Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh. He said in his petition that the road shows and bike rallies violate the poll body’s  instructions and cause damage to the environment.
