Ruckus in Odisha Assembly over Kalahandi starvation deaths; Opp demands for Speaker’s ruling


Bhubaneswar: Opposition Congress and BJP legislators today created uproar in the State Assembly over Kalahandi starvation death issue following which the House was adjourned by the Speaker amid din.

Senior Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra raised the issue in the zero hour of House and demanded strict action against Chief Secretary and Collector if the starvation death issue is found to be true as ordered by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded for Speaker’s ruling over the matter.

However, the House witnessed ruckus created by opposition over alleged death in Balisada village under Junagarh block in Kalahandi district due to starvation.

Witnessing the tension over the issue, Speaker Niranjan Pujari and Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi adjourned the house from 11.57 am to 12.55 pm.

The opposition leaders including Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Debendra Sharma, Anshuman Mohanty, Pradip Purohit and Radharani Panda rushed to the well and shouted anti-government slogans demanding Speakers ruling over the issue.
