Rs 500 crore for Kerala not enough, declare national disaster: Rahul Gandhi


New Delhi: Congress chief Rahul Gandhi today lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Rs 500 crore allocated for Kerala floods is simply not enough and reiterated to declare the floods as a national disaster.

Rahul took to Twitter and wrote, “Dear PM, Increasing funds allocated for Kerala relief to Rs 500 Cr is a good step but nowhere near enough. It is critical you declare the floods as a National Disaster. Please do not vacillate as the people of Kerala are suffering.”

Earlier in the day, he had urged the PM through Twitter to declare Kerala floods a national disaster without any delay adding the lives, livelihood and future of millions of our people is at stake.

As per the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala is facing its worst floods in 100 years. 80 dams have been opened, 324 lives have been lost and 2, 23,139 people have been evacuated to about 1500+ relief camps. In terms of property damage, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 19,512 as per an initial assessment.
