Bhubaneswar : Taking in account the safety of students, State Commerce and Transport department organized a workshop here at KIIT Auditorium on Sunday discussing the guidelines published in the ‘Policy on Transport of School Children 2016’.
District Collector Niranjan Sahoo said that with increasing number of accidents taking place across the city, the norm specifies that overloading in the school buses is not permissible. Global Positioning System (GPS) will be implemented in all the buses so that parents and school can check the real time location of vehicles. Contact numbers of the bus in-charge, school administrator, school transport committee, local regional transport officer and police would be printed on the right hand rear side of the bus. There would be separate email IDs to register complaints.
The policy also emphasizes the school authorities to ensure that the students do not use vehicles with engines more than 50 cc. Sahoo said that penalty of Rs 25000 along with court notice will be issued against the school authority, if any student under the age of 18 years is found to commute in a vehicle with engine above 50 cc.
Among others, Khurda SP Manoranjan Mohanty, DCP (Traffic) MN Bahidar also attended the workshop.
