Rohit Sharma ton powers India to T20 series win over England

Bristol: Opener Rohit Sharma’s brilliant unbeaten century guided India to victory over England in the T20 international series at Bristol on Sunday. India sealed the T20 series 2-1.

Sharma became only the second Indian to pass 2,000 runs in this format as India chased down their target of 199 with eight balls and seven wickets to spare.

Pandya took 4-38, his best figures in T20 cricket and MS Dhoni became the first player to take five catches in international T20 and ran out Chris Jordan on the last ball of England’s innings for good measure.

Batting first, England posted a huge score before Pandya and Dhoni pinned them back and the hosts finished on 198-9 after their 20 overs.

India lost Shikhar Dhawan (5) early in 199 chase but Rohit Sharma along with KL Rahul steadied the Indian ship with a 41-run partnership. However, KL Rahul (19) perished in search of quick runs.

India captain Virat Kohli, who departed for 43 runs, kept the scoreboard ticking from one side and Rohit blasted the bowlers from the other end.

Chris Jordan broke the 89-run partnership between Rohit and Kohli but it was too late as Rohit had done enough damage. India reached the target with eight balls to spare as the right-handed over remained unbeaten.

England 198-8 (20 overs): Roy 67, Pandya 4-38

India 201-3: Rohit 100 not out, Kohli 43, Willey 1-37
