Delhi: Despite India’s defeat in the fifth and final one-day international against Australia, Indian opener Rohit Sharma on Wednesday went past the 8000-run mark in ODI cricket.
The opener scored his 41st half-century during their fifth and final ODI against Australia at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
Rohit became the third fastest player to cross 8000 runs in ODI cricket. He is also the ninth Indian batsman to do so after Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Mohammed Azharuddin.
Only Virat Kohli (175 innings) and AB de Villiers (182 innings) have been faster than Rohit.
Earlier yesterday, Australia defeated India by 35 runs, clinching the series by 3-2. India restricted Australia with 272/9 in the decisive fifth ODI in Delhi on Wednesday after the visitors opted to bat. However, the India batting line up crumbled down and India eventually lost the match by 35 runs.
This was also India’s last ODI match before the World Cup in England.
