Paris: India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner Marius Copil knocked sixth-seeded Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus out with a straight-set win in the first round of the ongoing French Open on Tuesday.
The unseeded Bopanna and Copil sent the South African-Kiwi pair packing with a 6-3, 7-6(1) win in the first round, which lasted one hour and 18 minutes.
On the other hand, Naomi Osaka battled back to reach the Roland Garros second round on Tuesday while Grand Slam under-achiever Alexander Zverev needed four hours to get through his opener.
Top seed Osaka defeated Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova with 0-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 score.
German fifth seed Alexander Zverev outclassed John Millman in a decider to reach the second round of the French Open.
The 22-year-old claimed a 7-6 (7/4), 6-3, 2-6, 6-7 (5/7), 6-3 victory in the longest match of the tournament so far at four hours and 11 minutes. Zverev will face Swedish qualifier Mikael Ymer for a place in the last 32.
