Rich Tributes Paid To Pradyumna Bal On His 86th Birth Anniv


Bhubaneswar: On the 86th birth anniversary of revered politician, journalist and founder Editor of renowned Odia daily ‘Pragativadi’, Shri Pradyumna Bal, a programme was held at KIIT University today commemorating the noted personality who hails to be the founder president of KIIT and KISS as well.

Gracing the Pradyumna Bal Memorial ceremony Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “I am delighted to be here to attend the 86th birth anniversary of renowned Journalist and political leader Pradyumna Bal. Pradhyumna Babu was a paradigm of ethical politics and journalism based on strong foundations of true democratic values. He was an excellent organiser, and was associated with several literary and cultural organisations. His contribution to journalism and education will always be remembered with reverence.”

Paying his earnest tribute to the revered politician, Patnaik congratulated the members of Pragativadi and KIIT, KISS family on the occasion.

The memorial event was also touched by noted economist Omkar Goswami, well known educationist Omkarnath Mohanty, Editor in Chief of ESPN Cricinfo Sambit Bal, and President of KIIT & KISS Saswati Bal and Bratati Bal, daughter of Pradyumna Bal.

“Pradyumna Babu was the founder Editor of Pragativadi and founder President of KIIT. Two great institutions – one is here to add strength to the voice of people, and the other is here to educate and empower youth. That speaks volume about his visionary leadership,” Patnaik said.

“Odisha today is on a glorious path of fast paced progress in every sector of society. From economy to agriculture, from education to Information Technology, from health to sports, from industries to Skill Development—Odisha is on the move. Odisha is on its way to rewrite its destiny and secure its rightful place in the history of development,” the Chief Minister added.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister conferred the Pradyumna Bal Memorial Award to the ‘Water Man’ of Odisha, Daitari Naik, a septuagenarian who single-handedly carved out a three- kilometre long canal from the Gonasika mountains in Keonjhar district to the parched land in the downstream to ensure flow of water for cultivation. The CM also handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to Naik issued by Pradyumna Bal Memorial trust.

Rich tributes were paid to late Shri Pradyumna Bal in the premises of Pragativadi office, KIIT & KISS campus and Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital.
