Rayagada man sentenced to 10 years jail for killing father
Rayagada: The district and sessions court in Rayagada district on Friday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 10 years imprisonment after convicting him for the murder of his father in 2016.
District and sessions judge Biswajit Das found Rumilal Nayak, a resident of Badachekana village under Kashipur block in the district, guilty under Section 302 (B) for killing his father Banamali.
According to sources, Rumilal picked a quarrel with his younger brother Ranjit over a trivial issue and tried to attack him with a knife. When Banamali protested, Rumilal in a fit of rage attacked him with the knife repeatedly. A critically injured Banamali was rushed to Kashipur community health centre where he succumbed due to excessive bleeding.
A case was registered in this regard at Kashipur police station and the accused was subsequently arrested.
Inspector-in-charge Prasanna Mishra conducted the inquiry into the case. The court pronounced the verdict after taking into consideration the statements of 12 witnesses.
