Mumbai: Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy, based on the life story of street rappers Vivian Fernandes alias Divine and Naved Shaikh alias Naezy hit the theatres on Thursday.
Besides, Ranveer and Alia, the film also stars Kalki Koechlin, Amruta Subhash, and newcomer Siddhant Chaturvedi in pivotal roles.
Beginning with Ranveer’s stealing scene, the film portrays an underdog’s story fighting with all odds to become a rap star. It all shows a large issue of class perceptions and social prejudices.
Zoya Akhtar’s directorial is based on a young man’s struggle inspired by two real-life Mumbai street rappers Naezy and Divine.
Despite being overlong, the film is an undeniably entertaining, even rousing, portrait of a robust life forged by adversity, tenacity and the courage to dream.
Before hitting the silver screen, the film had garnered heavy applause at its screening at the Berlin International Film Festival.
