Ranji clash : Three tons steer Odisha to salvage draw against Rajasthan


Patiala : After called to follow-on, Odisha batted throughout the fourth day of the fifth round of Ranji Trophy to draw the match against team Rajasthan and got only one point. However unlike the first innings Odisha batsmen showed a lot of maturity and in the process opener Ranjit Singh, middle order batsman Subhranshu Senpati and debutant Abhishek Yadav scored centuries.

After Odisha scored a staggering 508 with the loss of 6 wickets, both captains decided to shake hands and end the match. Govinda Poddar led team continued batting from 244 for 4 and overnight both the batsmen Ranjit and Subhransu completed their centuries. Later Abhishek Yadav who got a chance to play the match in place of Anurag Sarangi scored century. He was batting at 115 at the end of the match with an impressive strike rate of 73.25.

Rajasthan captain pankaj Singh used as many as 10 bowlers, but they could take only 4 wickets on a pitch that seemed more batting friendly as the match progressed. SF Khan and TM Ul Haq took 2 wickets each while MK Lomror and RD Chahar took one wicket each.

Earlier Odisha had won the toss and decided to field first. Rajasthan with the help of a century from debutant SF Khan made 323 and in reply Odisha were allout for a paltry 172 shying away from avoiding follow-on by 2 runs.

After end of this round Rajasthan have 12 points while Odisha with one point from this match have 9 points from four matches. Odisha on its next match meet Assam at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium Hyderabad.
