Rajdhani Express catches fire near Rourkela, no casualty
Rourkela: Panic gripped hundreds of passengers of New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express on Monday after the Express train caught fire near Tilkanagar, a few kilometers before reaching Rourkela Railway station.
As per sources, smoke was spotted billowing out of the B-7 coach at 12.40 pm following which the train was halted at the spot.
On being informed, the Government Railway Police (GRP) officials reached there and broke the window panes in order to release the dense smoke. However, a few minutes later at around 1.05 the fire again erupted and engulfed the coach.
Later, the Railway officials with their efforts successfully doused the flames at Rourkela Railway Station, sources informed.
However, no loss of life has been reported as the passengers managed to alight from the train safely.
Though the actual cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials informed that fire broke out due to a short circuit in one of the coaches of the Express train.
While the coach that caught on fire has been disconnected, the train service is likely to resume soon, officials informed.
