Angul: Train services were affected in the district today due to the ‘rail roko’ agitation observed by the Members of Railway Users Consultative Committee at Bamur station.
The association launched the stir demanding railway authorities to halt Bhubaneswar-Bolangir Intercity Express at Bamur station.
According to sources, the locals had been demanding stoppage of Bhubaneswar-Bolangir Intercity Express at Bamur station for a long time. Despite the repeated requests, the railway authorities, and the Centre are yet to take the demand into consideration.
Following this, the members under the aegis of Railway Users Consultative Committee called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh.
Meanwhile, several organisations and locals also extended their support to the bandh. However, emergency services and educational institutions have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Due to the bandh, several trains have been halted at Redhakhol station. Police forces have also been deployed to avoid any untoward situation.
