Raahgiri to turn Odia: BMC announces Rs 5K award for coining new name


Bhubaneswar: After its popularity in the first season, ‘Raahgiri’ is all set to commence with its second edition from November 27. But this time the Sunday event will be launched with a new Odia name. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun an open contest for suggesting an Odia name to the event.

People of the city can participate by suggesting a name for Raahgiri in the official Facebook page of ‘Bhubaneswar-Smart City’ and stand a chance to win a sum of Rs 5000 cash. The users have to log on to (www.facebook.com/bhubaneswartowardssmartcity) and submit their suggestions in the comment box. To submit suggestions offline, the participants can send their SMS or Whatsapp to the cell number, 9937033393 or can submit the suggested names at BMC Communication Cell to Gopal Panigrahi.

Starting from today, the contest is open till midnight of November 24 (Thursday). The winning name would be announced through the Facebook page in the next day.  Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said that the winner will be rewarded with Rs 5000 cash on the inauguration day of Season II Raahgiri on November 27.

BDA Additional Commissioner and Nodal Officer of Raahgiri, Bhabani Chayani said that the new idea in the following season lies in providing an interesting platform for the amateur artists so that our citizens get to know the horizon of creativity across our state.

Earlier, a preparatory meeting for the event was held at BDA Conference Hall under the chairmanship of BMC Additional Commissioner and BDA Vice-Chairman Krishan Kumar. In the meeting he discussed about the various ways to make the event as a model for other public events in the city.

The first edition of ‘Raahgiri’ was discontinued due to unprecedented rains and bad weather conditions.
