Doha: Roberto Bautista Agut beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the Qatar Open semi-final in Doha. The Wimbledon champion, Djokovic lost the match by 3-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-4.
World number 24, Bautista Agut took the second-set tie-break on his fifth set point and then broke in the opening game of the decider, eventually winning the match in two hours and 35 minutes.
For the 30-year-old Bautista Agut, it was only the second victory in nine matches against Djokovic. Besides, Bautista Agut has never progressed beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam.
While the two-time champion of the event was looking forward to becoming a three-time champion, with this defeat Djokovic bowed out of the Qatar Open.
