PV Sindhu becomes 1st Indian to win BWF World Championships

Basel: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Sunday scripted history by becoming the first Indian ever to win the World Championships title at the BWF World Championships.

Sindhu pulled off a brilliant 21-7, 21-7 victory against Nozomi Okuhara in the finals to win the maiden gold in the BWF World Championship in Basel.

She became the first Indian shuttler ever to win the World Championships title and also the second player ever to win five World Championship medals.

“I dedicate this medal to my mother. It’s her birthday today,” Sindhu said after winning the gold medal at the World Championships. She also thanked her coach Pullela Gopichand and support staff.
