Puri murder case: Wanted criminal injured in police firing


Puri: Notorious criminal Jitendra Sahu who is allegedly involved in the murder of a youth near Puri Gundicha temple was arrested on Saturday.

He was rounded up by the police after an encounter near Barimula Chhak on Jatani-Pipili road.

Sahu who sustained bullet injuries during the encounter was admitted to the Capital hospital in Bhubaneswar under police custody. He was wanted in the murder of Sanjaya Behera, who died in firing near Puri Gundicha temple on December.

Acting on a tip-off about the movement of Sahu, police tried to intercept him but he opened fire on them in a bid to escape from the police team. In retaliation, Sahu received gunshots on his right leg.

He was initially rushed to Puri headquarters hospital and later shifted to Capital hospital.

A motorcycle, a country made pistol and two live bullets were seized from his possession.

Many criminal cases are pending against Sahu at several police stations, police sources said.
