Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday declined to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the Kartarpur Corridor saying he cannot travel to Pakistan due to the continued terrorist attacks and killing of Indian soldiers by Pak army.
Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu said he was awaiting permission from the Ministry of External Affairs for the visit to Pakistan.
Singh’s response came after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also declined the Pak invite. The government will send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri to Pakistan to grace the occasion.
The Pakistan Foreign Minister had announced on Saturday that he had invited Swaraj. In her response, Swaraj wrote to her Pakistani counterpart that she would not be able to travel to Kartarpur Sahib due to peroccupations.
