Protest over death of aspiring constable during physical test


Cuttack: A 20-year-old aspiring police constable died while participating in a 1,600 metre run during the physical test for the recruitment drive at OSAP Ground here Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Suresh Pradhan, son of Ramesh Pradhan of Nukhapada in Narsinghpur block of Cuttack.

Nayak fell ill while running the 1,600 metre during the test. He was immediately rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance. However, he died while undergoing treatment.

Two other candidates had also taken ill during the test. They were undergoing treatment at SCB.

Meanwhile, the family members of Suresh alleged that he died due to medical negligence. The family members of the deceased along with fellow villagers locked Cuttack-Narasinghpur road demanding compensation.

The protestors staged a road blockade near Nukhapada when the body of the deceased reached the village after postmortem. They demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation and job for one of the family members of the deceased.

Vehicular movement on state highway 25 was disrupted due to the agitation. The discussion between the villagers and the administration was underway till the last report came in.
