Prohibitory orders clamped in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: Ahead of the Ram Navami celebrations, the Bhadrak district administration yesterday clamped Section 144 of CrPC in the communally-sensitive district from 6 pm indefinitely.

District Collector Gyana Das said, “Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been imposed from 6 pm today for an indefinite period. But the situation would be reviewed from time to time.”

As many as 16 platoons of police force and two battalions of Rapid Action Force have also been deployed to ensure that the Ram Navami celebrations pass off peacefully without any untoward incidents like 2017. The police and the RAF also conducted a flag march in the evening.

Notably, communal violence had gripped the town in 2017 after the Ram Navami celebrations as some disruptive elements posted objectionable remarks against Hindu deities in social media. Many business establishments and houses were torched after rioters went on a rampage. The police had a tough time in restoring normalcy and many of them were arrested.
