Probe launched into burying of elephant carcass by forest guard in Baripada


Mayurbhanj: A forest guard of Kaptipada range under Mayurbhanj district allegedly buried the carcass of an elephant at Raipahada without informing the higher authorities, officials said today.

After the incident came to light, the Baripada Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) informed that a probe has been launched regarding the incident and necessary action will be taken after the probe.

According to reports, the forest guard buried the carcass with the help of some villagers without disclosing the matter to others, fearing suspension from the job.

Reportedly, the accused forest guard, identified as Anita Singh, has been detained for further interrogation into the matter. Besides, a team of forest officials, including ACF and Ranger, have reached the burial site for investigation.

“The carcass will be exhumed to ascertain the gender, age and actual cause of the death of the pachyderm, who had died recently, sources in the forest department said.
