New Delhi: The government on Tuesday has allowed the use of facilities of government entities by the private sector for production of defence equipment.

This big move is expected to boost indigenous production of defence equipment in the country. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced this at a seminar on indigenization plans of the Indian Air Force.

Singh said:“We’ve just approved a proposal for providing test facilities of government entities to the private defence sector. A formal government order will be issued. This has removed various bottlenecks which used to come in way of using test facilities by private entities”.

Speaking on the occasion, Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa stressed on the need to have indigenous manufacturing of defence equipment but added that the forces cannot wait for the same forever.
