Angul: Tension ran high at Katarang village near Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Angul district on Wednesday after the residents detained some forest officials over the presence of a tigress near their village.
According to sources, tigress ‘Sundari’ which was brought from Bandhavgarh was released into Satkosia Tiger Reserve from a special enclosure on August 17. However, a group of villagers had gone to graze goats to the nearby forest when they spotted the tigress on Tuesday.
Panic gripped the village after the news of the presence of the tigress spread. The residents spent a sleepless night on Tuesday due to the fear of the tigress.
Upon being informed, SPF Suvendu Behera along with a team reached the village on Wednesday morning. However, the villagers detained the officials and demanded to drive away the tigress immediately.
After a long discussion, the villagers released the forest officials at 8 pm.
