Kalahandi: A pregnant woman at Nehela village in Thuamul Rampur block under Kaniguma panchayat in the district was carried on a stretcher for 12 kilometres after ambulance failed to reach the village due to the non-motorable road.
As per reports, one Saibani Goud of the village complained of labour pain forcing her family members to seek immediate medical attention. Though her husband, Hoichun Goud, called an ambulance, the emergency vehicle driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to lack of proper road.
With no other option left, the family members of the woman along with the local ASHA worker and some villagers carried her in a stretcher and walked for about 12 kilometres to reach the ambulance.
The woman was then rushed to Thuamul Rampur hospital where her condition is stated to be stable.
