Pre-poll violence in Vanivihar, Section 144 clamped

Bhubaneswar: A day after filling up of nominations for the forthcoming students’ union election in Vanivihar (Utkal University), bombs were reportedly hurled in the campus today evening near ladies hostel.

A senior police official said that the bomb hurling incident is a hoax rather it was just bursting sound of a fire cracker. Nothing has occurred, he added.

Tension prevailed in and out of the campus after the incident and two groups of youths clashed near the main gate of the varsity.

In a bid to restore normalcy in the spot, the Commissionerate of police have clamped Section 144 in front of the varsity’s main entrance.

Even as the students’ poll was cancelled in the BJB College here due to an incident of bombing, the media-centric varsity seems yet to witness a lot of pre-poll violence till the end of election process.
