Posing as cops, miscreants loot gold ornaments from woman in Cuttack
Cuttack: Unidentified miscreants posing themselves as police personnel allegedly looted gold ornaments worth lakh from a woman in Cuttack on Sunday afternoon.
The matter came to light today after the victim, identified as Sakuntala Mishra, a resident of Odia Bazar lodged a complaint at Dargha police station here.
In the complaint, the woman stated that she was returning home after finishing some work at Chandi Chhak when two miscreants waylaid her near Stewart College.
As per the complaint, the miscreants, identifying themselves as cops, asked the woman to take off her gold ornaments and wrap it up in a paper after warning her of the presence of looters in the area. Later, the miscreants allegedly changed the original wrapper with the duplicate one and fled from the spot.
But when the woman returned home, she found that the ornaments were not original. Following which, she lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
Police have registered a case (31/19) under Sections 419, 420 and 34 of the IPC and launched a probe into the matter.
