Police issues advisory for cracker outlets in city


Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure safety during selling of crackers ahead of Diwali, the Commissionerate police on Monday levied restrictions on opening up makeshift cracker shops in the city.

The twin city police have directed shopkeepers to set up their stores away from crowded public places, markets, residential colonies, slums, other shops and have released an advisory to all police stations to comply with the regulations with due strictness.

“Sellers have to take permission from their respective authorities of BDA, BMC and CMC before opening up cracker shops,” a senior police official said adding, “Similarly permission from Fire department and police are also required before opening up such shops.” The kiosks will have to be situated at least 50 metres away from the road.

Meanwhile, process to identify open spaces preferably playgrounds is being undertaken by police since there are no such market places for cracker business inside the bustling city, the official said.
