Police arrest youth in attempt to rape case in Kendrapara


Kendrapara: Kendrapara police today arrested one accused in connection with an attempt to rape a 19-year-old college girl on NH-5(A) near Jadupurgada on Sunday.

Marshaghai police conducted a joint operation with Kendrapara special police team and Paradip counterparts to nab the accused.

The arrested has been identified as Kalandi Behera, aka Kalia, of Jadupurgada village, a Tata Ace driver.

He has been booked under Section 376 and 511 in Marshaghai police station and would be produced before the SDJM court of Kendrapara after his medical examination, informed Kedarnath Sahu, the SDPO of Kendrapara.

Notably, the victim, a final year Shastri student of Gopinathpur Sanskrit College was dragged by Kalia on broad daylight while she was walking on the highway with luggage to a private hostel.

The accused tried to sexually assault her. However, the victim managed to rescue herself and shouted for help by running undress, Police said.

Later, the locals and the college students had staged a road blockade near Jadupurgada on NH-5(A) under Marshaghai police station on Sunday and Monday respectively demanding the arrest of the accused.
