Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi while his visit to the state would honour the families of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in fight against the British rule. He would felicitate them on behalf of the country during a programme at the Raj Bhavan on April 16.
He said that the Centre has made the decision to commemorate the historical Paika Revolt, the first freedom movement against the East India Company of the British in Odisha, on the completion of its 200 years as a proud moment for the Odia community. Modi has agreed to felicitate the great heroes of Odisha for their contributions to freedom.
Pradhan added that history has not recognised the immense contributions of veterans like Raghu Dibakar, Lakhman Nayak, Chakhi Khuntia, Bauxi Jagabandhu, Veer Surendra Sai and Nirmal Munda in the freedom struggle. By felicitating the families of these great heroes, Modi would honour the Odia community.
