Paradip murder: Bapi Sarkhel sent to Ali Pingala jail


Jagatsinghpur: Following his arrest on late Friday evening in connection with the Paradip murder, Bapi Sarkhel, who was in Kujang jail was today sent to Ali Pingala jail for security reasons. Labour union members had gathered in huge numbers on Saturday to protest his arrest outside the Samagola jail in Kujang.

Sarkhel, who was arrested on grounds of his proximity to main accused Rakesh Choubey in the murder of Paradip Seaways Shipping and Logistics Ltd manager Mahendra Swain, was shifted to Ali Pingala on Saturday afternoon. Police has taken Rakesh Choubey on a three-day remand.

Meanwhile, Mahima Mishra, managing director of OSL, who police said was behind the murder, is yet to get a hearing date for his anticipatory bail application in High Court. Sources said, it might take 20 days to get a hearing date for the anticipatory bail applied on Friday.

On the other hand, Pradesh Congress Committee Prasad Harichandan said that law will takes its own course in the context of the demand of Youth Congress members to remove Congress strongman Sarkhel from party following the arrest.
