Pachyderms wreak havoc in Khurda
Khurda: Panic gripped the residents after a herd of wild elephants strayed into human habitation and wreaked havoc in villages near Chitrakuta hills and Tangi area in Khurda district today.
While a woman was attacked by an elephant near Chitrakuta hills, a herd of marauding elephants destroyed several sacks of paddy in Tangi.
As per sources, Basanti Balabanta Ray of Brundabanpur village was on her way to attend nature’s call when an elephant attack her, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to the nearby hospital.
In Tangi, a herd of pachyderms caused massive damage to paddy crops in Sanarautapada area. The jumbo herd also destroyed around 40 sacks of paddy.
Upon being informed, forest officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
