Over four quintals of cannabis seized during raids, 4 peddlers held
Puri: The Excise sleuths on Tuesday seized over four quintals of cannabis (Hemp) during raids at Chhaitana and Narendrakona areas in Puri and arrested four peddlers.
Acting on a tip-off, the excise team led by Sharat Chandra Bhanj conducted a raid in Chhaitana area near Puri-Gop road. During the search, the team arrested one peddler, identified as Maheshwar Mohanty, and seized around 4.43 quintal green intoxicant from his possession.
Based on information from the arrested, the officials conducted another raid at Narendrakona area in Puri town and nabbed three more persons involved in the illegal trade.
Around 17 kgs of bhang have been seized from the possession of the three accused. The arrested peddlers were selling the green intoxicant to the local customers after trafficking it from Gajapati district, the police said.
The market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be around Rs 2 lakh, the police said and added that the arrested peddlers have been forwarded to the court.
