Boudhgarh: In a shocking incident, a man was forced to carry the body of his sister-in-law to the crematorium on a bicycle after villagers refused to help him.

The shocking incident took place at Krushnapali village under Brahmanpali panchayat of Boudh district. Chaturbhuj Banka cremated his sister-in-law Pancha Mahakud (42) after transporting the body to the crematorium on his bicycle.

According to sources, Pancha, who was unmarried, had been living in the house of his brother-in-law. On July 30, she was affected by diarrhoea following which Chaturbhuj admitted her to Boudh district headquarters hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment the next day.

When the body of the decreased reached Krushnapali, Chaturbhuj requested the villagers to help him in the cremation. However, none came forward to help Chaturbhuj to take the body to the crematorium as he was ostracised from the society for marrying twice.

Left with no alternative, Chaturbhuj later took the body of his sister-in-law to the crematorium on his bicycle and buried it.

Reportedly, Brahmanpali is the native panchayat of speaker Pradip Kumar Amat. Although various awareness programmes are being conducted, the existence of caste system and ostracism remained deep-rooted in the area.
