OSRTC’s ‘Rajdhani’ ready to compete with private run buses
Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has geared up to compete with private bus operators with its new line of Rajdhani buses. This newly acquired fleet of 75 super deluxe buses will run to district headquarters and other major cities across the state, said OSRTC CMD Sudhansu Shekar Sadangi.
He said the air-conditioned buses will have facilities including modern seats, personalized lighting, individual mobile charging points and various such features to make the passenger’s journey comfortable. The move comes after long running notion of passengers regarding extremely uncomfortable and badly maintained bus service provided by OSRTC.
With an aim to provide more comfort to the passengers, all the new buses will be labeled as ‘Rajdhani’. At present, OSRTC is running 373 buses under 23 units including A/c Deluxe, A/c Sleeper and other category of buses.
Further six Volvo buses will also start operating under the corporation, out of which, two are already running in Puri – Kolkata route and the remaining are to operate in Barbil-Kolkata and Bhubaneswar-Baripada route.
Earlier, the Transport Department of the state in a letter to RTO had mentioned that some inter-state private buses are illegally operating on Bhubaneswar-Koraput-Nabarangpur-Malkangiri-Jeypore via Andhra Pradesh routes resulting in unhealthy competition with OSRTC buses.
