Cuttack: In a major relief to Paradip MLA Damodar Rout, Orissa High Court today quashed the FIR and criminal proceedings against Rout in the 2010 Kujang casteist remark case.
Kujang Police had registered a case against Rout in 2010 following a complaint filed by one Major Bhoi alleging that the politician uttered a casteist word (Harijan) during a public gathering at Kujang in Jagatsinghpur.
As per the allegation, Rout had referred three persons, without taking their names (Jagatsinghpur MLA Bishnu Das, Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarei and ADM Upendra Mallick) as ‘Harijans’.
During hearing of the case today, Rout’s counsel argued that a false case was filed against Damodar Rout, as he had never uttered such word so that it would attract Section 3 of ST/SC Act.
After hearing the case, Justice AK Mishra quashed the entire proceedings of the criminal case including FIR against Rout.
