Bhubaneswar: Hours after his surrender before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar, senior IAS officer and former director of Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) Binod Kumar was awarded three-year jail term on Friday.
Hearing the case of a financial irregularity to the tune of Rs 55 lakh in the corporation in 2000, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on Kumar.
The convicted IAS officer was sent to Jharpada jail here after her bail plea got rejected.
Kumar and another accused in the case, Purna Chandra Das, had surrendered before the court earlier today as per the Orissa High Court’s order.
The court also sentenced Das to three years of jail imprisonment.
As per reports, Binod Kumar, the then executive director (technical) Purna Chandra Das, assistant manager Sanjay Mohanty, accounts officer Pradip Rout, accountant Chitta Mallick and secretary of Gramya Bikash Manch, Asish Das had been convicted by the court in the Rs 55 lakh scam.
